During a traditional school year, PTSA normally sponsors programs and events such as Red-E Week, Black History Month, Teacher Mini-Grants, Senior Scholarships, and many more. In addition to our commitment to provide these programs and advocacy, one of our top priorities this year will be focusing on the emotional and physical health of our students and staff by providing outreach and supplementing funds to cover the cost of PPE and other health and safety needs in the school.
In order for PTSA to continue with our mission, we need your help! You can do this by simply joining the PTSA and/or making a donation. As a 501(c)(3) all donations made to Lassiter PTSA are tax-deductible!
We have simplified our membership options to reflect the current school year as well as making membership 100% online. Follow this link https://lassiterptsa.membershiptoolkit.com/form/m/116655
to purchase your memberships, make a donation, sponsor a teacher, and buy some LHS swag.
Now, more than ever, it’s important that we’re staying connected. While creating your membership, make sure you sign up for the Trumpet Blast to receive email communications from the PTSA. Also ‘like’ us on a Facebook @LassiterHSPTSA and Instagram @lassiter_ptsa to see frequent updates and announcements.
Due to the spread of COVID-19, the 2020-2021 school year will be like no other. Your support is greatly appreciated as we work together to support our school during this unprecedented time.

A Message from Dr. Richie
Remote Learning Update 7/29/20
Dear Lassiter Families,
I hope this letter finds you healthy and safe. As you know, the District changed course from offering families the choice of an instructional format to now offering a virtual only platform for students. The current information with bell schedules was published Monday on the District’s website (https://www.cobblearningeverywhere.com/). I would encourage all families to read the information as well as the FAQ’s carefully. Opening school in a virtual format certainly has challenges; however, we have structured three weeks of preplanning to prepare, train, and supply teachers with the resources needed to ensure our students are provided a meaningful, accountable, and structured learning experience. It’s been awesome having teachers working this week and seeing their excitement as they prepare to connect, teach, and share their passion for learning with our students.
CTLS (Cobb Teaching Learning System)
CTLS Learn will be the District’s learning platform. Students will log into CTLS Learn and follow their class schedule period by period. CTLS Learn will serve as the platform where students will go to find calendars, assignments, submit work, and access digital textbooks http://cobbctls.com/. CTLS Learn has live capability so instruction, chat, and discussion can be in a live format to help support students in the learning process.
Students will be live with their teachers as they follow their schedule from 8:00 until 1:30. A break and a school wide lunch period is built into the school day. All students will have a designated lunch period from 11:35 until 12:10. A typical Lassiter school schedule will show a student having lunch either 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th period. This period will be a student’s study hall while we are in virtual school.
From 1:30-3:30, students will work independently completing homework, studying, and preparing for class the next day. This time is also designated as a time period for teachers to have virtual office hours where teachers will be available to answer questions.
Attendance will be taken each period. Students are expected to actively engage in all lessons, complete all assignments on time, and adequately prepare for tests. Grades will reflect students understanding and mastery of the curriculum. Teachers will communicate their grading policy at the beginning of the semester.
Wednesdays are designated as time for students to complete assignments and allow teachers to work with individual and small groups of students to meet individualized instructional needs. Classes do not formally meet on Wednesday.
Digital learning plans will be created for students with an IEP. Special education teachers are being trained on digital learning plans this week. Case managers will be in touch with families regarding this process.
Each student is expected to have a device. Parents were able to request a device for their student through Parentvue between the dates of July 2, 2020, through July 23, 2020. If you requested a device during this time period, then your request is being processed and we require no further action.
If you did not request a device during this period and your student does not have access to a device, there is still an opportunity to make that request. There is a link on Lassiter’s website www.lassiterhigh.org for you to do so.
We have some courses that will require textbook distribution. We will send out information soon on how to pick-up devices as well as textbooks.
Clubs & Organizations
As we start the school year, our priority will be to make sure our students and teachers are comfortable with the new learning environment. After Labor Day, we will work with club sponsors to determine club viability within District guidelines.
Lassiter High School is a test administration site for both the ACT and SAT. Over the last few months, very few schools have been able to host these test administrations which has created problems for our students who are trying to take these important college entrance exams. District facilities are currently closed for rentals and large group gatherings. We are waiting on safety guidelines to adjust our normal testing procedures. We will continue to provide updates.
Counselors are working on a variety of videos, newsletters, and social media posts to welcome students and introduce themselves. Please make sure you are following our counseling department:
@counselinglhs on twitter
@lassitercounseling on Instragram
Our counselors will continue to be available to all students to support them academically, socially, and emotionally. We will continue to have parent presentations and the career center will still be available to help seniors prepare for the college application process. Please look for separate correspondence from our counselors regarding remote services. Here is a link to the counseling website
I hope this correspondence addresses your initial questions. Over the next couple weeks, we will continue to refine information, problem solve, and communicate pertinent information to you. We are still under Governor’s Kemp executive order, which limits our ability to host any large group meetings or schedule any events that have traditionally been part of our opening school procedures. Regardless of the circumstances of how the 2020-21 school year begins, our teachers are diligently planning and focusing on connecting with and teaching all Lassiter students in a digital format.
